| Sail the Caribbean
Sea
Does the sight of dazzling white sails on
azure blue waters capture your attention?
If so, why not place yourself in this scene
by competing in the friendliest regatta on the sailing circuit,
the Angostura Sail Week in Tobago. In its 25th year, this
event captures “the Spirit of Racing” with its
perfect blend of offshore rivalry and on-shore revelry on
13th to 18th May. This week of serious, not so serious and
fun sailing enhances the regatta’s reputation of attracting
both regional and international sailors.
Held in the southwest of the island on
the Caribbean Sea with winds fluctuating between 12 and 20
knots with the occasional gust hitting 24 knots, conditions
for competitive sailing could not be better. Each race lasts
three to four hours with five different categories depending
on the type of yacht you decide to sail.
The Opening Ceremony begins on Sunday evening
before the first race commences bright and early on Monday
morning. After the adrenaline of the opening race you can
analyse the results over Angostura Rum Punch, listening to
the soft sounds of soca music and watching the sun set over
the tropical beach of Store Bay. On Tuesday you can improve
on your performance or suntan results from yesterday before
adjourning to the Regatta Village for more relaxation or partying.
Wednesday is spent at Coral Lagoon, otherwise
known as No Mans Land where you can soak in the balmy lagoon,
participate in onshore sporting activities and eat the island’s
traditional Roti dish. Thursday is another chance to maintain
your title or snatch it from another crew with Friday being
your last chance to excel before the Prize Giving Ceremony
in the evening where you can party the night away at the End
of Regatta Party.
