DRESSED UP OR DRESSED DOWN – THE BEST DRESSED WILL BE AT TRINIDAD & TOBAGO’S FASHION WEEK 2008
Forget London, New York and Paris, Trinidad & Tobago is the place to be seen for fashion! The first annual fashion week of Trinidad & Tobago (FWTT) starts today in Trinidad’s capital, Port of Spain.
Showcasing 45 local, Caribbean and Guyanan designer collections across five days, this event will feature new talent as well as established designers. Daily shows from different designers will follow the themes of ‘Caribbean Spirit’, ‘Conscious fashion’ and ‘Fresh’.
Dianne Hunt was inspired to organise this event by her visit to London Fashion Week, commenting:
“There was so much going on in London, one couldn’t help but get into the swing of things. The fashion there was incredible. We Caribbean designers should and could be doing more.”
The organisers hope that Fashion Week will provide an opportunity for the entire fashion industry in Trinidad & Tobago to showcase the talents of their make-up artists, models, hairdressers and designers. Fashion Week is also supporting the University of Trinidad & Tobago which has recently established a fashion and design department.
The main events will be taking place in Adam Smith Square in Woodbrook, Port of Spain. After a day of sight-seeing, visitors to Trinidad can enjoy Fashion Week in style, sampling some of the fashionable delights of this twin-island destination.
